April 9 – Ontario Financial Support for Families with Children

The Government of Ontario currently has two programs available to provide financial support to parents.  If you have any questions regarding the programs below, please reach out to Support for Parents Helpline at 1-888-444-3770.

The first program (announced during the school board strikes and subsequently settled with certain parties),  remains open for application on a retroactive basis.

The program provides for varying degrees of financial support for children of different ages and provides increased support for families of children with special needs. Generally, support is as follows:

  • $60 per day per child up to six years old who are not enrolled in school but attend a school-based daycare that’s closed by a strike
  • $40 for kindergarten students
  • $25 for students in grades 1 to 7
  • $40 per day for families of children with special needs, from kindergarten to grade 12

The application for the program can be accessed via the following link:

The second program is the Support for Families educational resource subsidy. The subsidy provides for a $200 payment per child between the ages of 0-12 and $250 for children with special needs between the ages of 0-21.

One application per child should be submitted. Only one parent may apply per child. In the case of split parental families, normally the parent with custody would apply.

We hope you and your families continue to stay safe.
